Does Artificial Intelligence need a PR consultant ?

Unsatisfied with media coverage concerning artificial intelligence, researcher
Zachary C. Lipton launched the blog Approximately Correct to do justice to his subject. According to Lipton, media coverage of artificial intelligence is based on approximate data and discusses speculative prophecies to the detriment of the true nature of AI innovation.

In an article entitled “AI’s PR problem,” Jerry Kaplan, an entrepreneur, writer and futurist based in San Francisco, posits that Artificial intelligence is the victim of fantastic exaggerations and misconceptions of all kinds. According to Kaplan, recent progress made in this sector has been susceptible to embellishment by the media giving it a false image. Because of this, technical advances as diverse as AlphaGo, self-driving cars and voice-activated virtual assistants such as Siri and Alexa, are synonymous with the progressive development of super intelligence that is on its way to surpassing even the human mind.

Towards an ethical Artificial Intelligence

With the increasing presence of autonomous agents in our daily lives, Artificial Intelligence specialists propose to implement a set of ethical rules to allow them to realize the extent of their actions. Others seek the establishment of a right for robots as a way to resolve the emerging legal issues

Among the numerous articles dedicated to autonomous cars today, one particular thought experiment resurfaces often: the trolley problem. Adapted to self-driving cars, it is usually presented as follows: an autonomous car, with a person onboard, sees five pedestrians suddenly appear in its path. The only way to avoid them is for the car to send itself off the road, crashing and therefore causing its passenger’s death. Faced with this Cornelian dilemma, what choice does the Artificial Intelligence control software have to make? This thought experiment is anything but science-fiction. Many American states have already authorized some manufacturers to test their autonomous vehicles on their roads (with a human driver, ready to intervene and take over if necessary). Tesla’s commercial vehicles are equipped with an auto-pilot mode, which allows the car to self-drive under certain conditions (like on a highway where the driving is easy). This subject does not only apply to autonomous cars: from virtual assistants (Siri, Cortana, Google Now…) to humanoid robots, Artificial Intelligence increasingly inserts itself into our daily lives. Given this reality, many are those who insist on the importance of setting up ethical rules to supervise Artificial Intelligence.

chatbots to manage finances

Recent advancements in AI have lead to the rise in Chatbots. These conversational agents are able to have written or spoken communication with humans and provide access to a large number of services. Whether you are booking a flight with the help of Alexa, Amazon Echo’s voice-enabled virtual assistant or ordering yourself an Uber using Siri, Apple’s intelligent personal assistant, it’s all possible nowadays. This technology is beginning to expand in the banking sector. In fact, there is a rise in chatbots that promise a better customer service experience, quicker transactions or an assistance to spendthrifts so they can save money regularly.
